BIOGRAPHY
Let me tell you a bit about myself.

I'll get one thing out of the way upfront - if you were to meet me in person you would realize that I am blind. I have been since birth and other than posing the odd challenge now and then, being blind is not who I am. I am Barb, a muscian, a performer, and passionate believer in the power of music in our lives!

Specializing in recreational music and taking music beyond passive listening enjoyment, my approach has always been to actively engage the audience in fun and innovative ways. Whether I am busking as a street performer or as a contracted musician, I find absolute joy in engaging an audience. Whether they are singing along to the words, signing the words using ASL, tapping a beat on a table or just dancing, everyone can be part of making music together.

I have lived in Kingston my entire life and after attending both public school and highschool (KCVI) I went on to study at the University of Ottawa and then completed my studies at Queen's University with a major in Music. While at the School of Music I specialized in voice but my other proficiencies include piano and guitar.

During and following my studies I had several years’ experience in working with people with a variety of disabilities through H’art Centre, MusicMates, and programs through Ongwanada. I have also had the opportunity to work with seniors offering interactive groups sessions at Providence Manor and Revera St. Lawrence Place.

Music transcends barriers to communication and offers a means for even the most exceptional to participate and express themselves. Helping people engage musically in ways that stimulate minds, excite the senses and create an enjoyed, shared experience is my primary goal.

Here's what I do...

My focus is on recreational music, and by that I mean engaging audiences big or small in the music. Creating a fun experience, an interactive one or sometimes, just going with my audience and offering up the songs and melodies that have meaning or memory.
